Spring Hasn't Sprung...yet.

Spring may not have officialy made it's debut, but there are plenty of signs that's it's right around the corner! For example-the other day I was in my yard watching the weeds pop up like....well, weeds....when I spied some green foliage creeping up through the dirt. "YEAH..." I thought, "those are my tulips starting to come in!!!" And flowers=spring right!!?? I would be lying if I said I wasn't ready for it. Don't get me wrong-I do enjoy the winter season, but I'm ready to be outdoors in flip flops and shorts. Especially since my sweet visiting teachers brought me these lovely tulips. They have really brightened my home and put me in the mood for some warmer weather. Thank you for your thoughtfulness and all you do for me! You are such amazing friends.

Overdue Post

So I got looking through my pictures and found some from my work Christmas party. I was going to blog about it and totally forgot. Like last year we went go cart racing. Then, after a few laps around the track, we headed over to Kevin's (my boss' house) for pizza and a little.......ROCK BAND!!!! For those of you who are not familiar with this video game enjoy the pics of some grown adults making fools of themselves by trying to live the long lost dream of playing with Jon Bon Jovi.

Recovery status:

Vitals are fine.
Incisions healing well.
Grogginess wearing off.
Eating solids again.
Walking on my own....showering on my own....blogging on my own.

I'm still:
walking like a little grandma (bent at the waist).
having a hard time taking deep breaths.
needing to lay down after awhile.

It hurts when:
Chad makes me laugh.
I cough or sneeze.
I sit up too fast or lay on my side.

I've enjoyed:
taking naps three times a day.
taking some of those naps with Chad.
wearing nothing but pajamas for the past 5 days.
just sitting in bed relaxing and talking with Chad.

I no longer have:
an appendix or belly button.

"Thank You" for:
coming to visit.
bringing in meals.
shoveling the snow.
all the phone calls.
the cards.
the ice cream.
being the great friends and family that you all are!

(In case some of you didn't read my last post)
I won't go into a lot of details, but to make a long story short I had a simple outpatient surgery this weekend which also involved the removal of my appendix. I'm doing well and recovering quickly with the help of family and friends.

to: CHAD from: ME

I won't go into a lot of details, but to make a long story short I had a simple outpatient surgery this weekend which also involved the removal of my appendix. I'm doing well and recovering quickly with the help of family and friends. I just needed to take a minute to tell my wonderful husband how grateful I am for his love, support, understanding and helping hand. Chad-I am so lucky to have you in my life and by my side. You have been a pillar of strength for me to lean on in those moments of pain, confusion and doubt. Thank you for carrying me through those tough times. Thank you for loving me when I'm coming out of a drug induced state saying who knows what. Thank you for waiting on me hand and foot. Thank you for trying to make me laugh.....even though it hurts so much. Thank you for all the many pillow adjustments. Thank you for making my cream of wheat red in honor of St. V-day. Thank you for sharing your pizza with me. Thank you for cleaning the entire house for me. Thank you for unplugging the phone for me (that was very thoughtful). Thank you for rubbing my legs and back. Thank you for the hugs and kisses. Thank you for being by my side through all of this. Thank you for all that you do each and everyday! You are the best.
HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!!!!!!
Sorry we have to sped it watching Madagascar 2 in bed, but it sure beats all the long lines at the restaurants!

I read this article a few weeks ago and had to share it.

“Running to Him”
By: Marcy Zabriskie
February Ensign 2009

Years ago my son Derek competed in a much-anticipated track meet. For three long years of his young life, he had prepared for and hoped to win the two-mile race, and now watched with the crowd gathered near the finish line, it seemed the race would last forever. Finally, Derek crossed the finish line first, and the crowd burst into cheers. He was immediately surrounded by coaches, teammates, and friends, all patting him on the back and offering congratulations. Derek seemed relieved and thrilled to have finally accomplished his goal.
I noticed, however, that in the tangle of the congratulatory crowd, he was frantically scanning the field as though he wanted to be somewhere else. Soon Derek bolted across the field. I watched, with tears in my eyes, as he ran with arms outstretched into the open arms of his father—the place he wanted to be. I recorded that moment in my mind—a moment when I saw just how much our son loves and needs his dad.
Derek’s preparation for this event had not been easy. There were times of discouragement, disappointment, and sometimes complete despair. But Derek had the constant support of his greatest fan—his father! In rain, wind, sleet, or snow my husband was at every race offering Derek encouragement.
At those races my husband stood apart from the other spectators at what I considered an odd place. He wasn’t at the finish line or even along the final stretch, but at a distant corner on the far side of the field. Once I asked him why he stood there. I will never forget his answer. He said, “I stand at the place my son needs me the most. He does not need my encouragement at the beginning of the race—he’s excited, positive, and ready to win. He does not need those cheers at the end, when the finish line is clearly in sight. He needs to know I’m there at the most challenging moment—when his legs burn and he feels like he cannot go on. He needs to hear at that far corner a voice telling him to keep moving because he has worked hard and deserves to do his very best. There will be cheers at the beginning and loving support and the end, but I will be at the corner where I know he feels like giving up.”
As I watched Derek leave his team at the finish line and run a great distance into his father’s arms, I realized that spiritual whispers of encouragement from my Father in Heaven have not come at moments in my life when I felt most sure of myself. Instead, those reminders of His love have come when I thought I could go no farther, when I felt as if my spiritual legs would collapse in exhaustion. I have felt His love and I have known then, as I know now, that I am His child. As I remember my husband’s arms encircling our son, I imagine what it will be like to cross the finish line of this life and run into the waiting arms of our Father in Heaven. I am grateful for the support of a loving Father in Heaven and of our Savior, Jesus Christ, that has helped ease every difficult turn in my life.

Snowmobiling

This last weekend we decided to spend some time with our families and go snowmobiling. Kyle (Chad's brother) has been begging us for a few months now to come and go snowmobiling with him. After months of saying "no" we figured we should probably start saying "yes" every once in awhile. So we cleaned the house Friday night (what a horrible way to spend your birthday....sorry Chad!!!!), got our gear all gathered up, and were up and out the door by 7:00 Saturday morning. Once we arrived at the in laws, we loaded up the trailer and headed for AF canyon. It was really nice to get out and go riding again. We went down to Cascade Springs again to enjoy the winter beauty. I took some pictures to compare to what it looks like in the summer.
After stopping at Cascade Springs, and having some lunch, we decided to find some hills to play in and some that the boys could jump. I mean.....what is snowmobiling without boys being boys!

By the afternoon we were both really tired and worn out and kept telling ourselves that we probably need to retire from the sport. Something that probably won't happen. Thanks to Mom and Dad H for the use of the machines. We had fun. And thanks to Mom and Dad S for the bedroom set. I don't think you realize how appreciative we are of your generosity. We both have the best parents in the world!!!!!
We were also able to witness the blessing of our newest niece Savannah! We didn't know if our Sunday schedules would allow us to be there, but the fates worked together in our favor. It was so nice to be with family for that occasion. Thanks to Jason and Amy for allowing us to crash the party at the last minute. We really were glad to make it out and be apart of that!
